The 10 Critical Mistakes
1. Single coat application — Always apply 2 coats at right angles. A single coat creates pinholes.
2. Insufficient DFT — Minimum dry film thickness should be 1.0mm (wet application ~1.5mm per coat).
3. No corner reinforcement tape — Internal angles are the #1 failure point. Always embed alkali-resistant mesh tape.
4. Tiling too early — Allow 24-48 hours curing before tiling. Premature coverage traps moisture.
5. Ignoring pipe penetrations — Every pipe and drain must be sealed with compatible sealant.
6. Wrong primer selection — Highly absorbent substrates need acrylic primer; smooth concrete needs contact primer.
7. Application in freezing conditions — Never apply below +5°C. Crystal formation destroys the membrane.
8. Mixing with water — Ready-to-use membranes must NEVER be diluted.
9. No upstand height — Waterproofing must extend minimum 200mm above finished floor level.
10. Incompatible adhesive — Only use C2 or C2S1 adhesive over waterproofing membranes. C1 adhesive will delaminate.
