Applications Note — Large-format porcelain slabs give towers a seamless, premium façade — but fixing a 160×320 cm panel hundreds of metres up is an entirely different discipline from tiling a floor. The risks are voids behind the slab, differential thermal movement and the catastrophic consequence of a panel detaching. EuroFix high-rise façade systems address all three.
Solid-bed coverage, double-buttering and deformability
The single biggest cause of large-format failure is poor adhesive coverage. On façades, EuroFix mandates the double-buttering (back-buttering) technique — adhesive combed onto both the substrate and the slab back — to achieve near-100% solid-bed contact and eliminate voids that concentrate stress. The adhesive is classified C2 S1 (or S2 for the largest formats) to EN 12004, providing the deformability to absorb the daily thermal expansion a sun-exposed tower undergoes. Where required, mechanical safety anchors or undercut fixings supplement the adhesive as a secondary safety system, in line with façade safety practice. Handling tools and vacuum lifters keep the heavy slabs flat to prevent edge stress during placement.
Treated as a complete system — coverage, deformability and mechanical backup — large-format porcelain can clad the tallest towers safely and beautifully for the life of the building.
