Chloride resistance and crack-bridging in the splash zone
Chloride ions are the primary driver of reinforcement corrosion in marine concrete. EuroFix specifies cementitious crystalline and flexible polymer-modified membranes tested to EN 14891 with crack-bridging capability, applied over substrates prepared to a sound, primed base. For permanently or cyclically submerged zones, low-permeability coatings reduce chloride diffusion well below the threshold that triggers depassivation of steel. The system is selected against the exposure class (e.g. EN 206 XS1–XS3) so that the protection matches the real seawater exposure rather than a generic spec.
Correctly specified, a marine waterproofing system can add decades to the durability of jetties, sea walls and port slabs — protecting the embedded steel that gives the structure its strength.
