Every day, an underfloor heating system cycles from ambient temperature (~20°C) to operating temperature (~50°C) and back. This creates thermal expansion differential stress between the screed, adhesive, and tile — a force that rigid C1 adhesives simply cannot absorb. The Science of S1 Deformability

EN 12004 defines S1 adhesives as having ≥ 2.5mm transverse deformation under standardized load. This deformability allows the adhesive to flex with thermal movement rather than fracturing.
